Greetings from Springdale, Pennsylvania

Please join us to celebrate Rachel Carson's 100th birthday as we report from these green green hills of Pennsylvania. We are LIVE at her birthplace today to collect thoughts and remembrances from celebration attendees and guest speakers as the program continues from 12:30-5:00 PM EDT.

As folks at this event sit down to pay tribute with short comments and homilies you too can post comments. Click comments below to join the list of celebrants as we honor a life that continues to have a huge impact on environmental health, outreach, and education and whose exquisite poetic language deepens our understanding both of our responsibilities and also our appreciation of beauty for its own sake. Thank you Rachel!

Thie is a wonderful day, a long time coming to promote Rachel's passion, her research, her writing, and the place of her birth. Pittsburghes are extremely proud to claim her. Her work was
never more important than now.

Thirty vendors line the street along Marion Ave. in front of Rachel's house. A gentle breeze carries the sweet sound of the old tyme band that is staked out under the old oak tree. Mark Lytle is signing his book off the back door. Delicious local foods aplenty grace the tabless for the sustainable feast. What a great day to celebrate this remarkable courage person whose work is not done.

Here in Springdale one has a real sense of the place that shaped Rachel Carson. Some of those attending have relatives who remember her family and the landscape she explored as a young girl. A trip here helps complete the picture.

I want to join others around the world in saying "Happy Birthday" to Rachel Carson, a wonderful lady to whom we owe so much for the great part she played in her effort to maintain a clean, healthy environment. May we all be worthy of carrying on that effort and to preserve her legacy.

My apologies to Steven and Rudy. Your comments were hung up in the queue and I just discovered them this evening.
